What treatments are available?

A comprehensive lymphedema treatment program that is reasearch-based and tailored to the individual's needs has proven most effective. A typical program may include any or all of the following:

• Evaluation to determine the proper course of treatment.
• Manual lymph treatment to drain the lymph fluid from the affected region
utilizing the superficial lymph vessels with a non-invasive therapy
technique.
• Compression bandaging to reduce the protein-rich fluid in the swollen
tissues.
• Comprehensive fitness program, including flexibility, stregthening and
aerobic activities to enhance the lymph drainage.
• Sequential pumping with state-of-the art pneumatic pumps to maximize
the swelling reduction.
• Assistance in selecting equipment/supplies to maintain a therapeutic
home program.
• Follow-up treatment with evaluation at scheduled intervals to re-assess
needs as conditions may change
• Optional Services (if needed) to be provided by a social worker,
nutritionist, support group, or other health professional.
