Every family wants their child to grow and to learn to their fullest potential. Some children who have developmental delays or disabilities need a little extra support. This support is called Early Intervention. The Wisconsin Early Intervention Program is known as Birth-to-Three.
Facts About the Birth-to-Three Program
- It is a government mandated program.
- Every county in Wisconsin must provide the service to eligible children.
- Families may voluntarily choose whether or not their child participates.
- Services are offered at little cost to the family.
- Anyone may refer a child to the program.
- Evaluations are completed in areas of need by qualified professionals.
- Evaluations results are shared with the family and an Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) is written with goals addressing child/family needs and concerns.
- Goals are reviewed at least every 6 months.
- Services are offered by speech therapists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and early childhood teachers.
- Services are offered in natural environments including home, day care centers, preschools, and babysitters houses.
- Once the child turns 3 he/she is no longer eligible for Birth-to-Three services however the family is assisted in transitioning the child into the school system if appropriate.
